Injection drug use (IDU remains a significant risk factor for HIV/AIDS in the District of Columbia. Though there has been a decline in the number of new HIV/AIDS cases attributed to IDU, the number of persons living with HIV/AIDS because of IDU has increased from 2001 to 2006.
